From an interactive theatrical dining
experience to a two-story glass wine
tower, cruise ships being introduced in
2010 boast innovative features and
activities designed to wow cruisers of all
ages.
Set to sail in April 2010, the Celebrity
Eclipse will offer guests all of the
popular venues and activities introduced
on the Eclipse’s sister ship, Celebrity
Solstice. For example, the Lawn Club,
located on the highest deck of Celebrity
Eclipse, features a freshly manicured
lawn where passengers can enjoy casual
outdoor activities in a country club
atmosphere. And the Sky Observation
Lounge’s floor-to-ceiling windows
afford breathtaking views in all
directions.
Norwegian Cruise line’s Norwegian
Epic makes its inaugural transatlantic
seven-day cruise on June 24. The 4,200-
passenger ship will offer the next
generation of Freestyle dining with 20
dining choices and 20 bars and lounges.
The ship also boasts unique nightlife
options with the first Ice Bar at sea,
Spice H20, and Posh, exclusive open-air
hotspots. Those who crave action will
want to spend time in the expansive
Aqua Park with its tube slide and largest
bowl slide at sea. A mixed-use sports
deck enables guests to engage in eight
different athletic activities, and there are
three separate kids’ and teens’ activity
areas onboard.
Scheduled for delivery later this year,
Holland America Lines’ 86,000-ton
Nieuw Amsterdam will reflect the
glamour and history of New York City. |

The ship will feature 11 guest decks, and
staterooms will spotlight all of the line’s
Signature of Excellence premium
amenities. Also featured are innovative
spa staterooms with additional spa
amenities.
In November 2010, Royal Caribbean
International’s 225,282-ton, 5,400-
passenger Allure of the Seas will debut,
joining sister ship Oasis of the Seas as
the second of two biggest cruise ships
ever constructed. Like the Oasis of the
Seas, Allure of the Seas features
contemporary Loft Suites, a full-sized
carousel, an adults-only Solarium, and a
thrilling zip-line view of the ship and sea
below. The ship’s Central Park
neighborhood has a meandering garden
and lush public space lined with foliage
and fine restaurants, and guests can
enjoy daytime and nighttime water
shows in the AquaTheater.
In addition to the new ships that will be
introduced this year, several existing
ships will receive extensive
refurbishments. Included in this group
are Carnival Fascination, Carnival
Paradise, Carnival Elation, and Holland
America’s Ryndam and Statendam.
The Carnival ships are part of the line’s
$250 million “Evolutions of Fun”
program, which includes the addition of
Carnival WaterWorks Aqua Park and
Serenity adults-only retreat, a redesigned
main pool area, and new casual dining
choices. The Ryndam and Statendam are
part of Holland America’s $525 million
Signature of Excellence upgrades, which
focus on enhancements to cabins, pool
decks, and entertainment options. |
