Along with romance, history, and
beauty, Italy is known for its culinary
delights. And one of the best ways to
experience this enchanting country is to
combine sightseeing with activities
involving food and wine.
Trafalgar, one of our preferred partners,
offers an 11-day Flavors of Italy tour
that features wine tastings, visits to local
markets, and a cooking lesson in
Tuscany. This fully escorted tour begins
in Rome, where sightseeing includes
views of the Forum and Colosseum, plus
a visit to St. Peter’s Basilica. In the
evening, you’ll go on a drive that ends at
Piazza Navona, where you’ll sample
homemade Italian ice cream.
Next on the itinerary is Tuscany, where
you’ll go to the charming town of Greve,
Tuscany’s food and wine capital. Here,
you’ll visit a wine and olive oil outlet
where you can taste a variety of
excellent Chiantis and extra virgin olive
oils. You’ll also want to spend some
time in Greve’s main square, home of
some of the finest food shops in Europe.
On the following day, you’ll journey to a
fruit and vegetable market to buy fresh
produce for a cooking lesson that
afternoon. Then it’s on to Florence for a
walking tour. That evening, you’ll enjoy
a Tuscan style dinner in a farmhouse
restaurant.
On the following day, you’ll take an
excursion to Pisa where you can sample
the local produce before having lunch at
a restaurant located among the olive
groves. The following day you’ll be in
Venice, where you’ll visit the city’s
colorful fish market and enjoy a walking
tour, seeing sights such as the house of
Marco Polo and beautiful architectural
works of art. Your tour ends with a
special farewell dinner at a local
restaurant.
